process payment and generate the fishing licence. An email reminder
that a fishing licence has expired is also required.

Task 1:
The Project Manager has asked you to work with the other junior system analyst to present a report to Iceland Waterways that explores software development models and systems analysis tools and techniques and their suitability for modelling business processes requirements of the fishing licence system.

Your first task is to write a report evaluating the principles of system methodology and the different stages of software development life cycle (SDLC) and the alternative approaches available, including:
1.waterfall method
2.spiral development
3.prototyping
4.incremental development.

Evaluate the nature and features of different system methodologies:

 traditional structured methodologies structured systems
analysis and design (SSADM)
 agile methodologies rapid applications development (RAD)
 dynamic systems development (DSDM)

Finally, compare the use of the applied software development lifecycle
model and systems methodology techniques in the problem solving
process against alternative options and evaluate in regards to:

  • Object-oriented techniques: unified modelling language (UML®), analysis models such as cases, analysis class diagram.
  • Structured techniques: entity relationship diagram (ERD), logical data structure, process such as data flow diagram (DFD), time such as entity life history, models.
  • Computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools, e.g. system requirements specification documentation, data dictionary, screen design for data input, decision table checking.
