Assessment Information :-
This is a group assignment, but due to the Repeat situation you can do it individually. The assignment
requires you answer the below questions:
1.Critically analyse the macro environment of Hotel Chocolat and evaluate how the company is being impacted by the state of the macro-environment.
2.Critically analyse the micro environment of Hotel Chocolat and the competitive conditions in the industry in which it performs with reference to relevant frameworks.
3.Critically discuss the main drivers that are likely to affect the business for the future.
4.Make recommendations for the company on how to improve its long-term competitive position in the business.

Group Presentation details :
You are expected to form yourselves into a group of a maximum of 5 students to complete this assignment.The group is expected to record a 15-minute video presentation, using a video recording tool or software of your choice. The selected video format should be compatible with upload to Microsoft One Drive. See your module page for details of existing video recording tools and resources.

• Groups should be formed by students in their seminars. If you are not in a group, ask your seminar tutor to put you in a group by week 2 of the semester.
• Groups should not be less than 4 students and not more than 5 students.
• All members of the group will get the same mark.
• All members of the group should work together as a team with individual responsibilities.
• After forming the group, you must inform your seminar tutor and module leader.

Presentation Content
Your presentation should follow the below structure:

Introduction
• Company background
• Giving a business overview of the company
• An overview of the sector it operates in
• Business relevant information such as value/percentage of market share against its competitors

Critical analysis of the macro environment
You should provide an in-depth analysis of the macro-environment of the company by critically evaluating the impact of political, economic, social, cultural, technological, ecological, and legal factors on the industry in which the company operates. Your analysis should be supported by a range of data. You need to apply relevant theories and frameworks to identify both the opportunities and threats challenges resulting from macro-environmental factors.

Critical analysis of the micro environment
You should critically analyse the industry context in which your company operates. As part of this you
should apply relevant theories and frameworks to determine
• The competitive conditions in the industry
• The competitive position of the company within the industry
• The nature and strength of competitive pressures in the industry
• Recent key events, disruptions and other relevant information

Determination of the main drivers of influence
From the list of the company’s Threats and Opportunities (External Factors) identified from your macro
and micro environmental analyses, you need to determine the main drivers of influence that are likely
to affect the business for the future.

Recommendations
You need to draw some conclusions and provide recommendations about what strategy plans adjustments will be needed to deal with the impacts of the industry driving forces that you have
identified in the previous sections.

Note: You will be expected to use insight obtained from lecture materials and the textbooks and show
evidence of additional reading by referring to academic literature in your presentation. This should include the core textbook, relevant additional reading from the lectures (available on Aula), and your own research using the university’s library facilities.

Criteria for Assessment
This assignment is designed to assess learning outcome 2 (LO 2):

Word Count
The word count is not applicable for this assignment, but there is a time limit for the presentation video. The time limit for the presentation video is 15 (Fifteen) minutes. The specified time limit must be observed other wise a penalty will be applied and negative marking will be applied to any video recording exceeding 15 minutes.

There will be a penalty of a deduction of 10% of the mark (after internal moderation) for work exceeding the time limit by 90 second or more.

How to submit your assessment
To submit this coursework, you must submit the PowerPoint presentation slides you generated for your
presentation. The group presentation video link must be provided in the first slide of the Power Point
presentation file. The PPT file must be submitted by 18:00 on 07/03/2022. It is the group responsibility to
check that their link works. No paper copies are required. You can access the submission link through the
module web.

Your group name, the names of the group members and the link to the group video presentation must be provided in the first slide of your PPT file. (Please use the template file provided)

• Your coursework will be given a zero mark if you do not submit a copy through Turnitin. Please take care
to ensure that you have fully submitted your work.

• Please ensure that you have submitted your work using the correct file format, unreadable files will
receive a mark of zero. The Faculty accepts Microsoft Office and PDF documents, unless otherwise advised
by the module leader. For this particular assignment we accept PowerPoint presentation slides, which
includes the group presentation video link that should be compatible with upload to Microsoft One Drive.
• All work submitted after the submission deadline without a valid and approved reason (see below) will be given a mark of zero.
• The University wants you to do your best. However, we know that sometimes events happen which mean that you can’t submit your coursework by the deadline – these events should be beyond your control and not easy to predict. If this happens, you can apply for an extension to your deadline for up to two weeks,or if you need longer, you can apply for a deferral, which takes you to the next assessment period (for example, to the resit period following the main Assessment Boards). You must apply before the deadline.You will find information about the process and what is or is not considered to be an event beyond your control
