Your selected company X have received an approval from the board to set up a subsidiary in (A) Thailand, (B) Nigeria or in (C) Malaysia, since each had fewer than 500 confirmed cases per million people (Source: Our World in Data 2019). You are appointed asthe Head of Global Engagement for this operation, amongst other things, you are responsible to lead and provide a strategic oversight for this task. Choose a company and ONE of the target markets (either Thailand, Nigeria OR Malaysia).

Internationalization strategy :
You will choose a company (any industry of your choice and you can also refer to the suggested companies list if you struggle to get started) and write an internationalization plan, which details why and how the company should internationalize in one of the overseas market (select ONE only) to the and how the company plans to address their overall objectives (i.e. these objectives could include spreading market risk, increasing production volumes, lowering unit costs, improving brand image or profits etc.).

Please remember to choose a company which DOES NOT currently operate in your selected country. You can choose any company you like, either a small or medium sized enterprise or a large multi national corporation, but it is imperative you choose the company wisely and also check in advance whether company related information is readily and publicly available. If you are in any doubt, please contact your module leader.

Whilst you have academic freedom to decide upon the academic content of your report, you are strongly advised to follow the outline below. Several suggestions/questions are displayed to guide you in the preparation of each section of the report. You will be expected not only to present the information in a descriptive way, but where required to analyse the findings critically to support your argument and operation.

Domestic business overview
• Company data
• Outline the key factors (please refer to two factors only that according to your research and evaluation are considered to be key for the success in the domestic market. This section helps to build a robust foundation for the internationalization of the company, since a healthy and successful domestic business provides the motivation and potential for operating internationally.

•What industrial sectors does the company operate in?
• Who are its competitors? Who are its customers?

3.Market selection
Target market – LO1 and LO2
• Detail your target market and the key characteristics that led you to choose them and here you should focus on demography, socio – economic, political and legal characteristics – what do you conclude?
• Using Porter’s Diamond critically examine whether the industry of your choice in your target market is competitive internationally or not – what do you conclude?

Competitor analysis:
• Research here where your competitors sit in the market compared with where your product or service will sit. Based on your research, identify only one competitor and provide details of this company using a table (table is not included in the word count). What do you conclude?

Important Information :
It is VITALLY IMPORTANT that you choose a company which IS NOT currently operating in A, B or C. If you have chosen a company which previously sought to operate in A, B or C, but failed, that is fine, how ever you may want to pay attention during your research why the company failed and how you could do it differently this time.

Please remember your seminar tutor/module leader will not read your working draft – The Module leader will announce a Support Session (s) in June 2021, which is an opportunity to discuss your structure of your work and ask questions related to your work.

You should include a range of research (e.g. demonstrate wider reading through use of secondary data from relevant reports, articles and databases such as statista to capture consumer and market – related data) of your target market, porter’s diamond and internationalization strategy analysis. Secondary data from text books, journal articles, international organizations, government departments and company reports can be used.
