The aim of this module is to develop your theoretical and clinical knowledge of the assessment and management of patients with cardio-respiratory dysfunction. You will be encouraged to critically appraise and evaluate the under pinning theory, evidence base and practical application of contemporary cardio-respiratory physiotherapy practice.
The module provides the opportunity for you to integrate your learning into your own clinical practice and develop your clinical reasoning skills.
Learning Outcomes :-
On completion of this module the student should be able to:
1.Critically discuss the principles of assessment and management within cardio respiratory practice.
2.Critically analyse the theoretical basis of cardio-respiratory physiotherapy and its integration into a bio-psychosocial model of practice.
3.Evaluate and critically appraise existing cardio-respiratory physiotherapy practice.
4.Communicate in depth clinical reasoning effectively with colleagues
Method of Assessment :-
A 15-minute video recorded presentation linked to a case study with a 1500 word supporting document.
Overview :- During the 15 minute video presentation and in combination with your supporting document, you will demonstrate your critical review of the patient scenario. There are three case studies, you need to choose one case study for your coursework assessment.This can be found on Aula in the assessment tab. The critical review includes your clinical reasoning and clinical decision making regarding your case from a Physiotherapy perspective.
Learning Outcomes :- Your review should consider learning outcomes 1-4 how ever it is recognised that the emphasis on these learning outcomes will vary depending on the case study and your approach to this coursework.

Intended Audience :-
When preparing your presentation, you should imaging that you are the Physiotherapist leading the patient’s Physiotherapy input. You are presenting to your peers, seniors, and the wider team.
Presentation :- Your presentation should be created using PowerPoint. It should include:
1.Your understanding of the patient scenario
2. Your clinical reasoning regarding the patient scenario
3. The main problems and broader issues that you as a physiotherapist can influence
4.A clear focus: The area you plan to focus on for your course work, this could be a physiotherapy problem(s), or
broader issue or a combination of the two
5. The rationale for your focus
6. The planned management approach
7. Justification of the management approach linked to the evidence summarised in the supporting document
8. There is a total presentation time of 15 minutes which must be recorded using PowerPoint and screen castomatic
9. Presentation skills are an important part of the presentation.

The supporting document is something you would hand to your peers, seniors and the wider team, to demonstrate the key evidence behind your decision making including your rigour in critically appraising and evaluating that evidence in relation to your focus in the presentation and case scenario.
