Description of Assignment :
This coursework assignment requires you to respond to a request for advice, based upon a potential simulated project and to do so within the context of a given commercial scenario. You must present your analysis and advice in the form of an advisory report to the Client. The scenario, and supporting information and guidance are detailed in Appendix 1.

The Scenario:
You are a chartered surveyor advising your client on the procurement and contract choice for future projects that the Client is considering. The Client is requiring advice on the choice of standard form of contracts. Traditionally they have always used JCT Standard form of contracts suite but are now considering a switch to the NEC4 suite of contracts. One of their concerns is the administration of the contracts and they have asked you to review the following question.
The traditional approach to managing change in construction projects is normally dealt with in three separate elements. The NEC4 approach takes a different approach by pricing and managing change within the Compensation Event system. Explain how both contracts manage change within their standard terms and critically analyse whether the NEC4 suite of contracts offers a fairer provision for all parties to manage change compared to the separate clauses contained within the JCT suite of contracts. The Client has asked you to compare JCT SBC WQ 2016 and NEC4 Option B for this exercise.
