This is an Individual Assignment which requires students to produce an individual written report based on a self-selected case study. The report aims to develop a business case for a chosen opportunity to use machine learning within the organisation to improve business performance.
In your role as a Business Consultant you have been employed by the organisation to advise them on opportunities for a first project attempting to utilise machine learning in the business as a ‘proof of concept’ for greater future investment in this area. You should select an appropriate real world organisation that this situation may be applicable to as context for your report (your case study).
You will prepare a maximum 3,000 words report for the organisation on the following areas :
• Explore possible applications of machine learning in the organisation and build a business case for one of these use cases after considering and ranking the possibilities on a range of criteria such as complexity, cost of implementation, availability of expertise, risks and business benefits.
• Suggest which type or class of machine learning algorithm may be most appropriate within the business case
• Developing an outline of the key data sources and data elements needed in order for the machine learning algorithm to work successfully
• Developing an appropriate machine learning algorithm on the organisation’s data to implement the business decision-making OR outline conceptually how the algorithm would work
• Exploring the HR, ethical and legal considerations that may also be relevant when considering application of machine learning for the use case and organisation chosen.
