Construction Assignment

Throughout the process of design construction and post occupancy management information is critical. Through this unit students will develop their awareness of several types of construction information and their uses in the process. Students will engage in the production reading and editing of construction information to under stand how this information informs various stages of the process.

Using industry standard tools and systems, students will consider the ways that information may be shared and through this the value of collaboration in the information process.

Topics included in this unit are construction drawing, detailing Computer Aided Design (CAD) Building Information Modelling BIM schedules door window, hardware, etc.), specifications schedules of work bills of quantities and information distribution and collaboration

 The work you submit must be in your own words. If you use a quote or an illustration from some where you must give the source by using Harvard referencing.
 Make sure your work is clearly presented and that you use readily understandable English.
 Work presented within a box would not be marked.
 Assignments not submitted with a GBS Student Declaration form will not be marked.

Submission Format:
The submission is in the form of three parts:
 A written report
 Portfolio of a series of drawings, details, and schedules
 Construction information review

Part 1
A written report and/or screencast indicating the rationale that justifies your decision in the production of Construction Information that is related to the development of for residential puposes in Manchester and London).

Report format
Should be submitted as a word-processed report document in a standard report style which requires the use of headings titles and appropriate captions.
You may also choose to include pictures graphs and charts where relevant to support your work. The report should be no more than 1200 words in length.

All drawings are to be on a minimum sheet size of A3. They should include a title block showing project information and be numbered using an industry standard.
 General arrangement drawings (1:100)
 Elevations (1:100)
 Door and window schedules
 Outline Bill of Quantities

Part 3 :-
Construction Information Review; to include:
 Redlined construction drawings highlighting errors or inaccuracies
 Marked-up specifications highlighting errors or inaccuracies
 Corrected versions of selected documentation with suitable revisions recorded.
 Feed back Report

Assignment Brief and Guidance:
Scenario :-  Your are working as an Trainee Architectural Technician for a medium sized Architectural practice who specialise in designing buildings for residential puposes in Manchester and London.

Design a residential building on one floor The accomodation should includes details of the project requirements with associated areas of accommodation.

The floor plan should include:
 1 W.C and 1 ensuite
 2 bedrooms, 1 living room
 1 Kitchen
 Storage room
 Windows (between 4 and 7) and doors (between 5 to 10),

The side view should include:
– Roof
– Entry door
– Two windows

Report
You are required to complete a short report to justify the use of specific types of construction information in support of the project explaining the fundamental use of the construction information used.

Your report should clearly:
Describe the different types of construction information and their uses for example
site plans floor plans roof plans etc Explain the use of construction information for the project

Compare different types of construction information to identify suitability in specific contexts and provide justification of the use of specific types of construction information in support of the project.

With in the report you should include definitions of CAD and BIM; comparing the ways in which they are used in collaborative development of construction information.

Produce construction drawings details and schedules for the given project including:

Task 3 :-
Construction Information Review

In the Construction Information Review you will use the set of construction information provided to you to relate drawings to the specification and evaluate the drawings & details clearly identifying clashes with in the information.

Further you will use this review to critique the information and identify errors and dis crepancies across the various elements. With in the review you will propose corrections to drawings and specifications using industry standard notation/mark-up.
