your assignments at the ULBS.
ASSIGNMENT DETAILS
Students are asked to review and critically analyse a real-life programme of their choice, outline issues and/or key highlights linked to the programme performance, the impact of the programme governance structure that was present, and thereafter make recommendations for how to improve the chosen programme governance.
You must try to choose a programme by Workshop 4. Ideally, you should be able to find a typical programme but do note that some programmes may be labelled initiatives and also mega-projects. However, in structure, approach and content they may appeal as programmes. Should you have any questions in deciding your choice of programmes, you should consult your module lecturer to confirm that you can choose it to be analysed as a programme.
This assessment will require candidates to reflect on the theory and concepts learned in the classroom and apply them to a real-life programme. Select a programme where you can collect and review/analyse sufficient secondary information to derive meaningful and strong insights. It may be in the public, private or third sector. This is not typical ‘research’, so sources may also be from your selected organisation’s website, your knowledge of the programme, government and consultancy reports as well as journal articles.

Assessment guidance shall be provided in class, and please also watch the assessment video. To further help your preparation, specifically:
(1) You must use the concepts and frameworks discussed in the module in preparation of this report;
(2) Explanatory notes for each slide should reflect what you would deliver verbally to a live audience. Please note, there is no live presentation. Explanatory notes must have academic references/citations within them as appropriate. Additionally, you should include the cover slide (with student number and programme name), a Table of Contents, and references. Please note, in-text citations [e.g. (Smith, 2011)] and direct secondary quotations [e.g. “dib-dab nonsense analysis” [(Smith, 2011 p.123)] are INCLUDED in the word count but the reference list is NOT;
(3) There is no set number of references. However, given the scope of the assessment, it is suggested approximately 10 different academic and subject specific / professional journal sources may be appropriate – you are free to use a greater number of sources if you want to; –
(4) How you spread the task over the above slides and explanatory notes – i.e. structure it beyond the guidance provided above is up to you, variation is acceptable;
(5) There is no pre-assessment feedback on draft assignments. If you have queries you need to consult or email queries to your class instructor. You can of course ask specific questions by email text (no attachments), to your class instructor, to clarify and query your choice of programme, content and approach for the task – this is likely to be more useful than blanket feedback.
