Patchwork Folder:
A patchwork assignment consists of a carefully structured series of short pieces of writing, carried out at regular intervals throughout the module. These patches can be varied in style and genre.
To evidence how you achieved the module learning outcomes you are asked to produce 3 small patches, each 500 words. This will be supported by a final patch of 1000 words.
These will include:
Patch one: A review of the literature
Patch two: A poster
Patch three: A short questionnaire “My time in Hospital”
You will have an opportunity to discuss and share the above three patches in class in small groups.
Patch four: Discussion paper (1000 words)
Each of the patches must be supported by relevant and contemporary evidenced based literature.
A Patchwork Folder Template has been provided to enable you to attach all 4 patches together for submission.

Patch three is for this assignment and should not be used in any practice setting.

Patch 1.
Context of Care: Review of the literature: ( 500 words)
From your reading outline the key attributes that the child and young person’s nurse should possess.
Formative: Week 1 –This will be discussed as part of the tutorial in class
Patch 2.
Context of care: Poster (500 words)
The poster should contain information on the role of the child and young person’s nurse in reducing the effects of hospitalisation. This should also demonstrate developmental awareness.
The target audience is your peers.

Patch 3.
Context of care: “My time in Hospital” (500 words)
Explain why it is important for the nurse to seek children and young people’s views about care delivery.
Compile a short questionnaire (3 – 4 questions only) for a child or young person about their time in hospital. Provide a brief rationale supported by literature for these questions.
Formative: Week 6 –This will be discussed as part of the tutorial in class
Patch 4
Context of care: Discussion paper (1000 words)
Discuss one challenge for the child and young person’s nurse in contemporary health care delivery.
Formative: This will be discussed as part of the tutorial/s in class
Word Count:
Your patches should be concise and succinct. Writing more will not get you a higher grade, writing with clarity and really keeping the focus on your priority area will.
The word count for patches one, two and three are 500 words each and the final patch four is 1000 words.
